Progress report on our strategic plan

January 17th, 2008 by jtfred

Members of our planning team met with our coach Dave Olson on Jan. 15 and reported the progress of our seven goals we chose in our strategic plan to work toward reducing  poverty and increasing  leadership for Tripp. Dave Olson facilitated the meeting and had lots of good ideas and new information on upcoming workshops.  Look under “upcoming dates to remember” for more information about the workshops.

Our seven goals are: To develop affordable Senior, Youth Recreational/Fitness Activities that will promote quality of Life.  To improve the business climate of the Tripp area. To maintain and improve the appearance of Tripp.  Improve and expand accessibility to information about Tripp residents and others.  Create new “Welcome to Tripp” signs.  Continue to provide a means of exchanging quality items for any and all that have a need while also raising funds to benefit the community charitable organizations.  The housing committee will explore the feasibility of purchasing a house for sale to a family with children.Lots of work to do?, absolutely, the committees are working hard for the community of Tripp and we would love to have you join us.

Goal #1.  The Senior and Youth Recreational/Fitness Activities Center committee has met and has encountered a funding challenge which they are working hard to overcome.

Goal #2.  The committee to improve the business climate of Tripp area has met with very limited committee members.  They are currently recruiting membership. They have already met with the Tripp Commercial Club and plan to meet with the Tripp Development Corporation.  They will work with the Tripp Development Corporation to gather information about Parkston’s new economic development person.

Goal #3  The committee to maintain and improve the appearance of Tripp has met several times and are beginning to plan Spring Clean-up in conjunction with City wide clean up in May.  They plan to advertise in the Tripp Star Ledger and put up posters around town offering their assistance to others.  They are also looking for volunteers to help with the clean up and will be contacting the school to ask the students if they would be willing to help.  Some projects completed by the group have been:  a yard clean up, gutter cleaning, clean out a garage and fixed some garage doors.

Goal #4  The welcoming committee is working very hard on the community web site, brochure and welcome basket.  They have talked to and gained support from the Tripp Commercial Club on the welcome baskets.  They will begin asking for contributions, coupons and/or business cards from the businesses and churches.  The Women’s Civic Club will be asked to deliver the baskets to new residents.  They hope to have all the contributions and things as well as an answer from the Women’s Civic Club to report at the February 13th meeting.  The brochures will be completed by the February 13th meeting, and the committee will check on printing prices.  The web site is up and running with updates and changes (done by the students at school) taking place daily.   They may add a counter on the web page to see how many people go to the site.  You can check the progress by going to www.trippsd.com.

Goal #5  The sign committee has met and designed the signs.  Welcome to Tripp-Easy to find, hard to leave   They have locations in mind and will be calling the SD DOT to get their approval.  They will be getting cost estimates from several different companies as well as Maxwell Colony.  They will have these two items completed by the February 13th meeting.

Goal #6  The Town and Country Exchange committee is planning there next meeting on February 7th at 7:30pm at the Dugout Lounge.  The community exchange will be held the last Saturday of June at the Tripp Fairland Ballroom.  At the meeting they will discuss how they are going to get their donations and getting the word out of the event.  They will also discuss where the funds that are donated are going to be given.

Goal #7  The housing committee along with the Tripp Development Corporation explored the feasibility of purchasing a home that needs improvement to fix up and sell to a family with children: purchased a home located at 516 S. Main Street.  They looked at six potential homes in Tripp that were for sale before making their decision.  They will be contacting the City Council to address the special assessments on the property as well as beginning the necessary improvement.  Watch the blog for more information and pictures.

We need and can use your comments on these goals. Is Tripp on the right track? Just go to the bottom of this post and click on comments and sign in. It’s harmless! Our next meeting will be Feb 13th at noon at the Dugout Lounge, everyone is welcome.  Congratulations on a job well done, keep up the good work!  Thanks for all your help as well Dave!  You have been great and we could not have done this without you.

I hope the planning committee is looking at the young people in Tripp and realizing we are in great need of something to keep us here, not only jobs, but just a place to hang out

Our Clean-Up Committee met on April 16, 08 7pm. We dicussed our ad that will be placed in the paper to advertise to people that our assistants is available if needed for any clean up issue. We have decided to do a free will donation for our assistants and to put the money towards future Horizon Projects.
We are working with the city to let people know to trim their tree branches over the sidewalk by May 14-15 or the Clean-Up Committee will be doing it on May 24. We have asked the city if they could follow us around that day with a truck so we could just throw branches in the back and so the citizens know that the city and the clean-up committee are working together. Needs to be brought up to the city council and our committee is waiting for approval.
